Lilly – “Wife of Type 1 Diabetic”
Lilly has been married to her husband, a type 1 diabetic, for more than 30 years. Referring to him in her posts as “hubby”, Lilly describes what it’s like to deal with daily mood swings and high and low blood sugars. This is in addition to a list of diabetic complications, including spinal stenosis, neuropathy, retinopathy, triple bypass surgery and a kidney transplant (for which Lilly was the donor). Lilly started her blog Wife of Type 1 Diabetic in 2010 when she was in her fifties in hopes of connecting with other type 1 spouses who share similar experiences. Visit Lilly’s Blog: “Wife of Type 1 Diabetic”.

Saving (and remembering) my experiences
I have decided to save, print, and re-read my blog entries.  Of the few I have read in the act of copying/pasting, I am often horrified that I continued to stay for as long as I did.  I think having a concrete record of this is important for me, as sometimes I feel so guilty for leaving …. My New Blog
Well, I have finally taken the leap and created a new “Starting Over” blog.  Here is the link, for those of you who would like to follow it:  http://startingover3.blogspot.com/  Here’s hoping there is still life after leaving . . . actually, I know there is! :-)   I am still… Read More

Help?
Okay . . . I am admitting defeat here.  I know that there used to be a simple way to begin a brand new blog from dashboard . . . or at least I thought there was.  Do any of you know how to do this now, as apparently things have been changed?  Any help would be greatly… Read More

Thank you, Tom’s Wife!
Tom’s Wife recently posted:  Thinking of Lilly Hi Lilly  Today I was thinking of you (not sure why — just did)  Hoping you are doing ok as you have made some big changes in your life in the last several months  You and DW got me started on this venture of blogging  and I… Read More

“A Diabetic Spouse” is Back!
Sandy,  Welcome back.  Hope that you are not slammed in the future for what you have to say on your blog.  If you’ve looked at mine, you may notice that things have changed tremendously for me . . .  Anyway, here is the comment that you left:  SandyJuly 12, 2012 4:17 PMI am… Read More

New Beginnings
I am making plans to create an apartment for myself on the second floor of my dad’s old farm house.  Much needs to be done to make this happen, and it is daunting, but exciting at the same time.  Also sad, as it means I will not be going back “home.”  I do still care about my… Read More

I’m still here . . .
I have been gone now for 6 weeks.  Hubby still doesn’t get that I don’t plan on coming back home . . . other than to get the rest of my things.  He keeps sabotaging my attempts to move my things (probably because that is too final?), but for now I have what I need.  And honestly, if… Read More

Musings
Sitting here in my little home away from home, listening to the frogs, the peepers, and the birds singing their evening song.  So peaceful and healing.  Did I ever write that my husband actually gets angry at the birds when they wake him up in the morning?  One of the reasons he will… Read More

Peace
Sitting quietly in the camper, with all the windows open.  Enjoying the breeze, and listening to the birds and “peepers” singing outside.  If I were still home, all the windows would have to be closed, the AC would be on, and the TV would be blaring.  There is so much to be said for… Read More

Change in Circumstances
Well, I am now living in the camper.  Long story, but more of the same old stuff.  Of course, it is “all my fault.”  Too drained to even cry right now.  Should I be angry, relieved, or just plain sad?  I’m feeling all of those, and more.  For now, I am working on… Read More

Things to be thankful for
First of all, thank you for your comments on my last post.  Although I don’t “know” my internet friends face to face, I do still consider you friends . . . and very much appreciate your support.  It helps tremendously.  Tom’s Wife, you are correct that I have choices, and could make… Read More

Still hanging in there after another big blow-up . . . sort of
I guess it’s been 3-4 weeks since this happened, but it was just too painful to write about, and there has been no time.  On any given week, my time is at a premium.  Thankfully, I have this week off (for what it is worth!)   Anyway, the big blow-up came at the end of an… Read More

Common sense?
Jonah commented on my last post.  He has a brother with brain damage/manic depression (bipolar disorder), and made this observation about his brother:  “If he has a ridiculous idea (for example, if he tells me that I used to be purple or that he has heard dogs speaking to him) it’s best… Read More

Brain Atrophy and Type II Diabetes
Just found another study, done in Pakistan and published in 2010, that links brain atrophy and Type II Diabetes.  Here is the link:   http://www.ayubmed.edu.pk/JAMC/PAST/22-2/Ghayyur.pdf  Well worth the read.  I cannot copy/paste the text here, as it is in PDF file. … Read More

On driving . . .
Going through my posts, I realize I never really said how hubby’s truck accident turned out.  The truck was totaled, with 2 broken axles and a bent frame, plus other damage.  Very scary.  It is probably a miracle he survived.  He now has another truck.  However, he did not… Read More

I’m still here!
Dear S and Anonymous (along with all my other readers),  Yes, I have been away for awhile.  Thanks for your concern, S.  I have been a little overwhelmed with all my responsibilities, both in and outside of my immediate household.  Lots of family “drama” going on, and then I… Read More

Happy New Year to all my readers
Wishing you ALL a wonderful new year.  To all of “us” who are spouses of diabetics (wives and husbands alike), and also to those of you who are diabetic, but read my blog anyway.  Many thanks to all of you who have empathized with me on these “pages,” and also shared your insight. … Read More

Christmas “Adventure”
We got through the Christmas holidays . . . some of it good, some of it crazy.  Kind of “normal,” I guess!  Hubby still overdosed on Christmas cookies, but I was with friends for much of it, which was not a bad thing.  Christmas day, we were all together with family, and it was a… Read More

Post Thanksgiving
I sincerely hope that everyone had a good Thanksgiving.  My hubby was there for ours.  Is anybody surprised?  He began the day by crashing to the kitchen floor when he got his foot tangled up in his pant leg.  Of course, he informed me that the walker wouldn’t have helped… Read More

Happy Freaking Thanksgiving

Spinal Stenosis and Walkers?
Almost every day when I get home, my husband greets me with another story about how he fell “again,” and shows me the bruises.  He now has 3 walkers, and refuses to use any of them.  When I ask him why he doesn’t use a walker to prevent the falls, I always get a response that goes… Read More

Response to Anonymous with Diabetic Wife
Anonymous commented on a post from awhile back on “Why Do I Stay?”  I have brought it forward from the comments section so that it doesn’t get “lost” as comments so often do:  “Ive been married to my wife who has type 1 for a little over a year now. I’ve always struggled with her extreme… Read More

“A Diabetic Spouse” now open to invited readers only?

My fault . . . really?
Started the long weekend that I had so looked forward to with screams from hubby that the dog had peed all over his bedroom rug, and that it was “my fault” because I had not let her out.  The normal scheme of things (for years) is that on the weekends, I sleep in for an hour or two (which is… Read More

Fighting to keep my head above water
Haven’t been writing lately, as there has just been so much going on.  Hubby is basically doing NOTHING since I got back from my trip in August.  He is either sleeping, watching TV, or planted in front of the computer.  So I pretty much get to do it all.  It’s all so… Read More

(UN) stimulating conversation
Maybe I’m mean for even feeling this way, but:  I would so love it if my husband could greet me when I walk in the door with something (anything!) other than telling me how bad he has felt all day, and how he couldn’t get anything done.  Does he think that lets him off the hook for not… Read More

Back home again
My trip was amazing.  So wonderful to reconnect with family, and I even went hiking in the Rockies!  Wonderful.  It is now time to return to the “real” world, which is not so easy.  Surprisingly, hubby did manage to have the house somewhat together when I got home.  Didn’t… Read More

Taking a trip . . . :-)
I leave tomorrow for an extended trip to 2 different states: one southern and one western.  Looking forward to seeing family that I almost never see, but are very dear to me.  Will be gone almost 3 weeks, and am giving friends and family a “heads up” that hubby will be on his own. … Read More

Close Call for Both of Us
We are just wrapping up a camping trip with friends in our motor home today.  For the most part, it’s been fun, with no out of control episodes with hubby.  Whew!  The last few days have been good time to unwind.  However, getting here was more than we bargained for.  Going… Read More

Better A1C Already!
Hubby had an appointment with his diabetes educator today regarding the CGM he got 2 weeks ago.  He was told that his A1C  has greatly improved: from over 9 to 7.4.  Absolutely awesome.  He is as excited as I am.  He also said he has been feeling better, with more… Read More
