Jill – “Diabetes Sweeties”
Born in 2000, Jill’s daughter Kacey was diagnosed with type 1 in July of 2008. She began with symptoms that included bedwetting, stomach pains, vomitting and a slight headache. Thinking that her daughter might have a bladder infection/UTI, Jill made an appointment with the family doctor. After doing a fingerstick test, the doctor told Jill that her daughter’s blood sugar was 384 mg/dL. He sent them to the CHKD Emergency Room in Norfolk, Virginia. They spent the night at the hospital and met with an endocrinologist the following morning. Kacey’s diagnosis was now painfully clear; she had developed type 1 diabetes. Approximately two and a half years later, Jill’s older daughter Kayleigh, then 16, was diagnosed with hypoglycemia. Kayleigh had previously been diagnosed with asthma in 1996. Over the last week, my stomach has been in knots. When I’d feel that rumbling stirring up, I’d drop what I was doing and take time to just sit down and pray. I prayed for peace within.
