Kelly – “Naturally Sweet”
Kelly is a native of Las Vegas who was diagnosed with type 1 in April of 1985. In her blog Naturally Sweet, which chronicles her day-to-day life as a diabetic, she tackles personal topics like her struggle to obtain diabetes supplies after being laid off, including having to switch back to shots after using and loving her insulin pump (a technology she had rejected at first). Kelly’s posts are often filled with both personal and pop culture photos and videos that help to relay her thoughts and experiences. Visit Kelly’s Blog: “Naturally Sweet”.

My Vessell is Sinking.
I went to see my Dr. on Monday to go over some blood work that I had done.  I’ve been feeling like dogshit lately. Exhausted, sad and I gained 25 pounds.  I knew I was either depressed or it was my damn thyroid acting up again.   Sure enough.  It was a little of… Read More

Hello, November.
Hello.  It’s been a while so I thought I’d pop in a drop a blog. That sounds like I’m going to do something awesome with some killer dance moves or something but no.  I’m just here to purge the Diabetes side of brain.  Haha!   I don’t have any excuses for not… Read More

Awareness vs Knowing
November is Diabetes Awareness month.   Its awesome that Diabetes gets a whole month. An entire month to tell everyone the statistics, the side effects, the prevention tools for type 2, and so on and so forth. It’s great. No, seriously, it is great. People at risk for type 2 need this… Read More

That moment that reality hits….I have Diabetes….and my whole day..my whole life…is ruined. Not being able to go anywhere without a bag.I’m afraid to live alone….or be alone. I love being alone sometimes. I’m an only child FFS.When people say ‘Diabeetus’. Grrr.Reusing needles or lancets even… Read More

Dedicated To The Ones I Love.
Today I read a few comments that were posted from an old entry of mine…Cult of Personality  Sometimes, when I write, it’s basically like mind diarrhea.  Everything cultivates in my head and when I sit down to write, it all comes spewing forth.  Because of this, I rarely take the… Read More

Endo Schmendo
I finally made an appointment with an Endocrinologist.  The day before Thanksgiving.  I guess the timing couldn’t be any more perfect since I plan on eating my weight in holiday food on Thanksgiving. It’s probably better that I see a Dr. the day before.  Oy.   I am trying to… Read More

Every day. Every moment.
I created this blog years ago to bring Type 1 Diabetes awareness to those in and out of my life. I hoped to bring some comfort to others who have been diagnosed with this disease. I hoped to help feel, not only accepted into the Diabetes Community, but to also let others know we are not all the… Read More

Destiny & Diabetes
Life works in mysterious ways and everything happens for a reason. Do I believe this? Umm…sometimes. It’s interesting when I actually see destiny’s path unfold before my eyes. This doesn’t happen often, but it happened recently.  My fam & I moved into this great house in the woods back… Read More

Riding Bareback.
I’m riding bareback. Yep. I am.  Here’s my sad little story. I ran out of insulin with my last pump change. I didn’t have the money to get it refilled and figured I had 3 days with Romney Pawed. So, I put the pod on and went blissfully about my life.  I went to work, called in my refills… Read More

SAD
I went to the Doctor last month to talk about my state of mind. Seriously. Not even a Psychiatrist because that’s just crazy. No. I talked to my regular, run of the mill, Doctor to find out what in the name of all that is holy was wrong with me.  Abe came with me.  After the initial… Read More

Dr. Doesn’t Feelgood.
I really have to get this off of my chest. It’s something that has been annoying the piss out of me since….about…3 months after I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes.  I freaking loathe doctors.  Hate them.  I have seen more doctors than any person should ever have to see. Every 3… Read More

Daily ‘D’ Disclosures #11-17
November 12, 2011: Every wish I ever get; birthday, 11:11, dandelions, is for a cure. Not money. Not love. Not stuff. A cure. Just a cure. Diabetes stole my wishes…and my daughter’s wishes, too.  I’m not sure if wishes ever come true but I certainly don’t want to take my chances. Whenever a… Read More

Daily ‘D’ Disclosures #4-10
Yea, yea. I’ve been super busy and running behind so my daily disclosures have become weekly ones. So, sorry. Shoot me. Daily ‘D’ Disclosure #3
November 4, 2011: I like when I get free food or drinks because my sugar is low. I also like when I get seated faster because my sugar is low.  There’s always a positive.  For example, when I’m standing in line at a restaurant, waiting to be seated, and I feel the feeling. Diabetics know… Read More

Daily ‘D’ Disclosure – #2
November 3, 2011: I hate that Diabetes causes depression. I hate more that this disease sometimes has control over my happiness…and my self.  I am typically a happy person. Eat My Words.
One of the things I dislike about being a Diabetic is eating. I am not a big eater. It’s not that I don’t like to eat. I do. I love food. I mean, seriously, have you seen the size of my ass?  It’s not that I have an eating disorder either. Never have, not even as a teen, because I’ve always… Read More

Sweet Pickup Lines
We all need a dose of humor, now and then, in our chronic disease lives. Thankfully, humor never seems to leave mine. Whether it’s from my insane brain or my family’s or my friend’s…things like this definitely make laughter the best of all medicine.            … Read More

Cult of Personality Changes.

Raw Emotion Rant
Today, I am just writing off the raw emotion I am feeling. Those are the raw emotions… Read More

Love Bug.
Imagine, for a moment, that Diabetes was a chronic illness that couldn’t be controlled. It’s hard for any Diabetic to imagine it because we have, in our own personal power, the ability to sustain & live successfully with a chronic illness. We have the choice. We all are pretty certain that… Read More

Faux Vibrations!
Yes…I vibrate. I do. Sounds very exciting, no?  ::wink wink nudge nudge::  No. It’s not.  I am not sure whether it’s because I’m a Diabetic or if it’s because I am walking around with too many devices but I get faux vibrations. A lot.  Getting vibrations makes me feel like… Read More

Pump It Up!
I love my insulin pump. Love. It. I was an old school injector for most of my Diabetic life. So, when I first heard about the pump, I rejected the idea. I was anti-pump. It scared me, to be quite honest. I didn’t want this ‘thing’ attached to my body all the time. What about swimming?! What… Read More

Life Juice
It’s always hard for someone to completely understand that I have a chronic disease. They hear it, they may know it….but they never really get it. Diabetes Treaty-sss.
I’m in the process of engaging in a Diabetes Treaty. My D & I have not been friends lately and, quite frankly, it’s all my fault.  I have piled on 9 months of stressful bs and my bs has paid dearly for it. Most recently, my relationship has been the stress inducer. Typically I lead a… Read More

Dear One Touch
I hate you and love you simutaneously. Love you because you let me know how my bs is doing, you are small, compact, colorful and you are easy to use. Sweet in Seattle.
You are looking at the new ‘Seattle Diabetes Examiner’. Recently I was ‘hired’ to write for Examiner.com.  I say ‘hired’ because I only get paid based on readers. Hopefully I will generate enough readers to make it count. Anyway, part of my agreement was that I write about Diabetes in… Read More
